September Exports Beat Expectations Canton Fair Overseas Buyer Attendance Hits Record High

September Exports Beat Expectations; Canton Fair Overseas Buyer Attendance Hits Record High

When the General Administration of Customs released its October 14 data, many in foreign trade circles did a double-take. In September 2026, China's monthly exports in USD terms reached USD 447.18 billion, up 36.3% year-on-year — 11.3 percentage points faster than August — setting a record for single-month export volume. Market expectations had been around 25%; the actual figure came in more than ten points higher.

The more telling story is in the composition. Exports of mechanical and electrical products grew 43.7%, high-tech products 63.6%, integrated circuits 136%, and automatic data processing equipment and components 92.9%. The drivers of export growth have shifted from apparel, furniture, and toys to computing equipment, industrial automation components, and high-end electromechanical products.

Meanwhile, the first phase of the 140th Canton Fair closed on October 19. As of closing day, 189,000 overseas buyers from 214 countries and regions had attended, up 13.3% from the previous session and a record high. The theme of the first phase was "Advanced Manufacturing" — 25,000 booths, 12,000 exhibitors, with industrial automation, hardware tools, and consumer electronics halls packed.

Read together, the two point to the same shift: overseas buyers are re-evaluating the "manufacturing depth" layer of China's supply chain.

I. The Signal Buried in Export Data: It's Not Volume Coming Back, It's the Layer Moving Up

Within the 36.3% growth, integrated circuits stand out. September IC exports reached USD 44.951 billion, up 136% year-on-year, but export volume grew only 1.1%. Value surging while volume barely moves means the growth is driven by price and product mix — higher unit values, or a larger share of high-value categories.

Mechanical and electrical products tell a similar story. September exports of this category reached USD 298.38 billion, up 43.66%, remaining the largest export category. This category includes a large volume of precision structural parts, transmission components, sensors, and automation modules — not end-consumer goods, but intermediate goods embedded in overseas customers' production lines. In the first three quarters, intermediate goods accounted for over half of China's total export value, a ratio that itself signals a shift from "selling finished products" to "selling manufacturing capability".

For the build-to-print machining segment, this means the downstream customer base is changing. In the past, the counterpart might have been a trading company with a standard-part drawing, and the comparison was purely on price. Now, increasingly, the counterpart is an equipment manufacturer, a robotics company, or a medical device brand. Their question is not "can you make it," but "can you show me your batch consistency data" and "does your process traceability record cover powder lots and heat treatment curves."

II. On the Canton Fair Floor: What Buyers Are Looking At Matters More Than How Many Came

189,000 buyers is certainly a positive number, but the detail worth watching is where they stopped on the floor.

A CNR report from the closing day described a scene in Hall D: an exhibitor displayed a component with a diameter of just 0.05 millimeters — half the thickness of a human hair — drawing a crowd of buyers. The exhibitor's pitch was not "I sell this part," but "we don't just sell products; we provide the whole solution — how to weld it, how to complete it, we do the overall design for them".

At the Tianjin delegation's Sanyi Precision booth, the exhibit was a ping-pong robot using cameras to sense ball position and three robotic arms to control the landing point. The company's core business is ball screws, linear guides, couplings, and synchronous transmission components, serving semiconductors, automotive, medical, and aerospace. What buyers stopped to watch was the robot on the surface, but what they were really assessing was the precision transmission machining capability behind it.

Another signal comes from buyer composition. Polish buyer Jan Smith said at the fair that many Chinese suppliers he works with have grown from small ordinary factories into larger enterprises with independent R&D, complete design systems, and automated production lines. "We discuss together how to iterate and upgrade," he said. This suggests that a segment of overseas buyers has shifted its sourcing logic from "finding a cheap source" to "finding a manufacturing partner who can iterate with us."

In the "Advanced Manufacturing" zone of the first phase, large CNC machine tools, intelligent robotic arms, and industrial 3D printing equipment were on display, with mechanical and electrical products occupying over 80% of first-phase booths. Buyers walking these aisles are not shopping for finished goods; they are looking for upstream machining capability in the supply chain.

III. Yujiaxin's Position on This "Deep Manufacturing" Chain

Shenzhen Yujiaxin Technology Co., Ltd., founded in 1998, specializes in build-to-print custom machining of precision hardware components, high-precision complex mechanical parts, and metal-ceramic irregular structural parts. Its products cover medical devices, intelligent robotics, aviation models, and instrumentation, with self-manufactured products exported to East Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America.

This category mix overlaps with the fastest-growing directions in September's export data. Precision transmission components in medical devices and robot joints, and irregular structural parts in industrial automation equipment, are precisely the upstream segments corresponding to the high prosperity in mechanical and electrical product exports.

On the process side, Yujiaxin has the one-piece forming capability for small, complex structural parts such as dexterous hand micro gears and surgical instrument jaw grips. Precision CNC machining handles finishing of mating surfaces and critical dimensions. Precision gear forming covers micro tooth profiles at the reducer and transmission ends. In medical devices, the company already covers ultrasonic surgical scalpel tips and laparoscopic surgical instrument graspers, and has passed GJB9001C-2017 military certification, with a quality management system covering the full process of complex structural hardware machining.

For overseas equipment manufacturers and medical device brands screening suppliers, this capability set maps onto what they actually probe at Canton Fair: not the single-piece precision ceiling, but how batch-to-batch consistency is controlled, and whether process records can be traced back to material lots and process parameters. The military system's requirements for batch consistency and traceability chains share the same underlying logic as what high-end civilian manufacturing customers examine during supplier audits.

IV. Three References for Machining Enterprises Engaging Overseas Customers

First, translate "manufacturing depth" into a language customers can verify. Both the September export data and the Canton Fair floor point to the same trend: overseas buyers' interest in intermediate goods and core components is rising, but their way of evaluating suppliers is becoming more rigorous. Batch consistency data, process traceability records, and proof of process window stability carry more weight than a claim of "high precision."

Second, watch for category opportunities arising from shifts in buyer composition. In the Advanced Manufacturing zone of the first phase, booths related to industrial automation, robotics, and high-end equipment drew dense foot traffic, and medical devices have a dedicated Smart Healthcare zone in the third phase. Custom demand for precision transmission components, irregular structural parts, and core components of surgical instruments is moving from "supporting role" to "critical node" in customers' supply chains.

Third, calibrate your customer mix to the rhythm of export structure upgrading. Mechanical and electrical products and high-tech products are growing far faster than overall exports, meaning the industries your downstream customers operate in are themselves expanding. If your current customer base is concentrated in traditional consumer categories, watch for signs of extension into equipment, robotics, and medical directions, and prepare the matching CNC and gear forming process combination in advance.

The first phase of the Canton Fair has closed, but the search for "manufacturing partners who can iterate together" does not end when the exhibition halls shut their doors. Behind the fastest-growing categories in the export data are specific drawings and batch orders that require stable delivery. Shenzhen Yujiaxin Technology Co., Ltd. has been deeply engaged in build-to-print custom machining of precision metal components for over 20 years, and is ready to work with global equipment manufacturers and medical device brands to address the machining demand arising from this round of export structure upgrading, providing verifiable build-to-print custom machining support for precision transmission components and complex structural parts through its multi-process capabilities in precision CNC and gear forming.
