Application of MIM Parts in Automobile Industry

The automotive industry has become the main application field of MIM parts, such as the complex shaped parts used in engines, gearboxes, turbochargers, locking mechanisms, steering systems, and electronic systems, which are countless.
(1) Rocker arms for BMW engines
There is a type of rocker arm that rotates with the rollers. This is a rocker arm made of low alloy steel that controls the variable valve timing stroke of the engine. Its characteristic is that it has a hollow construction form and is lightweight, which is difficult to make using other methods.
(2) Shift lever
This is a very large MIM component used for manual transmissions in passenger cars.
The production process of this part includes injection molding, sintering, hardening treatment, and assembly of the shaft.
The material used is Fe2Ni, and the parts need to be carburized and quenched after sintering.
(3) Turbocharger blades
The production of MIM variable cross-section nozzle blades used in automotive diesel turbochargers is significant. This part can meet strict dimensional tolerance requirements, and cutting can achieve an accuracy of ± 0.015mm for the blade profile.
The blades are produced using specialized molds, which have excellent sliding function when opened and can reduce deformation when removed. MIM production can reduce production costs by 20%.
Now, the most advanced technology is the production of MIM high-temperature alloy parts, and its market share has been increasing. There are ready-made MIM injection materials available for Inconel 713 materials.
The MIM production process uses fine and dispersed powder, and the delivered parts have a very uniform microstructure, which greatly improves the microstructure of precision casting products.
